Welcome!

A brand new school year is ahead of us!  "There is something incredibly hopeful about a fresh start."  I think this quote encapsulates much of the excitement we always feel at the beginning of a new school year.  What exciting things are we going to learn? What interesting people will we get to know?  What fun adventures will we have?  With a fresh start, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.  I hope we all enter this new school year with a sense of adventure, an eagerness to learn, and the intent to be kind and supportive of one another as we venture into our 8th grade year.

What will we be learning in our English class this year?  We will study literature, writing, grammar usage, vocabulary, speaking skills, and listening skills.  Your course grade will be based on the following catergories and weighted percentages:

• Classwork assignments                                                 40%

• Writing assignments, essays, projects                        40%

• Concept assessments, exams, and AR testing           20%

Your homework will consist of the following:

• 30 minutes of daily reading in your AR book. AR testing will be included in your course grade at the end of each quarter.

• Weekly writing prompt, due every Thursday, to be submitted through Google Classroom or in your single subject ELA notebook. The grade for these assignments will be included in the writing assignments category of your course grade each week.  

• Weekly vocabulary lists will be tested in the Language Arts Reteach class and will be assessed quarterly in the ELA class. Study every week in order to be prepared!  You are accountable for learning 10 new vocabulary  words every two weeks!
